Instagram Account Types
Getting this right, is important for what you WANT to accomplish with your Instagram account. So let’s get into it.
Obviously, as the name suggests, if you’re a business, Instagram is thinking you should use a business account. And here is one of the things that you need to know about a business account. A business account is really useful if you do have a business or if you are a personal brand because it allows you to use their open API with other third party applications. For instance, schedule all of your Instagram posts (LATER.com) to post automatically so that you don’t have to do them manually each time you want to post. This is a great way to build consistency. It also allows you to utilize different applications for getting great reporting that is helpful for your analytics.
So as a business that really does make sense, right? But one of the things that a business account lacks is the option to use those really fun, popular trending music / audio options available with a personal account.
Personal creator accounts utilize music, backgrounds, et cetera but they don’t have the open API, for use of powerful scheduling applications or reporting. That can make things frustrating when choosing an Instagram account type.
Additionally, one of the things to keep in mind is recently Instagram did upgrade their Reels analytics reporting. That’s fantastic news! We love this because no matter whether you’re a creator or a business, you now get those much needed stats for your Instagram reels.
What’s the same in both types? You can do quick replies in your DM’s. You get to have the same category selections. You have call to action buttons. You still have the standard insights and analytics. You get the 5 links in the bio.
I Want It All!
I want it all, of course. So what to do? Here’s the workaround. I have 2 business accounts. I have one IG account for my real estate focused business an done IG account for the Content Lift for my marketing consulting services.
Instagram is a little sneaky about this little Business Account trick and I’m happy to share it with you. If you NEED a business account but want to use the fun tools as well, do this. Choose Business as your account type and ENTREPRENEUR as your category! This gives you access to it all. I know… #mindblown
I don’t know what Instagram’s method of reasoning is here, but it allows you to have both the API for those third party apps AND you also get to utilize the the fun trending audio and filters.
Remember, it just depends on what you need to get out of your Instagram account, but let me know in the comments if there are any other questions that you might like me to answer. I’m happy to help. Until next time, I’ll see you again. Make sure that you hit the like button and follow so that you know when I’m doing another video.
